As I write this there is a very strong hint of spring in the air. Even though we really didn’t have a winter this year, it is still exciting to know that the days are getting longer and the temperatures are on their way up. The same can be said for our beloved alma mater, Daemen College. All of the news coming from the College has been very positive. Enrollment at Daemen continues to be strong, and the College’s major degree programs remain strong, particularly in the health sciences.
We are also receiving positive endorsements through external ratings from publications such as US News and World Report. As alumni, we can have a positive influence on ratings of this type, since the editors consider alumni participation in the annual fund in their criteria for rankings. Your participation in the annual fund, at any level, is even more important than ever and a strong sign of school pride.
Daemen has been working harder than ever to broaden the educational programs in the arts, through animation; in the area of social sciences, through the paralegal program; in the field of health care, through the athletic training program and over all by staying in tune with the times and the interests of the students. This is all being accomplished at the same time as a focus on career-related programs, while remaining true to the College’s origin, based in the liberal arts. In addition, efforts continue toward moving the athletic program into NCAA Division II, which is expected to better serve the Daemen student athlete and community going forward.
As all of us experienced during our time at Daemen/Rosary Hill, it is about, in short, preparing people to achieve their personal best, pursue meaningful careers, and embrace the joy of life-long learning. I would ask that, as alumni, you will strive to become involved in the variety of activities that are available for alumni, not just on campus, but all over the country. I would encourage you to visit the Daemen College Alumni website: www.daemen.edu/Alumni on a frequent basis, in order to keep abreast of all of the opportunities that will reconnect you with old friends and your beloved Alma Mater.
