Jennifer Heritz ’21 Biology has been awarded the $500 Oral Presentation Travel Award at the 2024 SBUR Conference for her groundbreaking research on kidney cancer. Her talk, “Targeting Hypoxia-Inducible Factor 2-Alpha in Kidney Cancer,” focused on a promising new therapeutic strategy for renal cell carcinoma, a common and aggressive form of kidney cancer. Heritz’s work dives into how HIF-2a contributes to tumor growth and survival, with the goal of developing more effective treatments. Her well-received presentation at SBUR marks an exciting milestone in her career, and she is excited to continue exploring HIF-2a inhibitors as potential therapies for kidney cancer.

Julie Zulewski

Julie Zulewski Dean of Enrollment Management at Daemen University

Zulewski, who worked at Daemen since 2018, died on November 19, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Her genuine warmth, optimism, and compassion for students, families, and her colleagues created a sense of community and encouragement for everyone with whom she interacted.

Zulewski made lasting contributions during her time at Daemen, including mentoring young colleagues who have grown into key leadership roles. She established the graduate partnership program with local organizations, developed transfer initiatives, and created a preferred admissions program for alums.

She resided in Snyder, N.Y. with her husband, Robert, and was a proud mom to triplets David, John, and Sarah.
