1990s

Peter Brodie ’92, Administrative Study, received a promotion to deputy chief, data and informatics in the New York State (NYS) Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Trauma Systems. He has taken on new responsibilities for reporting during the COVID-19 pandemic and EMS system response. His greatest success is helping bring NYS up to documenting more than 98 percent of EMS care electronically.

2000s

Adam DeRose ’07, Art, wrote and illustrated the 17th book in his children’s books series, titled “The Moose’s Loose Tooth.”

Joella Laramay ’09, English-Adolescence Education, published a book titled “The Yang & Yin of Gender Transition.”

Kaylee (Peluso) Stearns ’10, ’12, Natural Science, Doctor of Physical Therapy, was named “Therapist of the Year 2020” for the Finger Lakes Region.

Daniel Garigen ’11, Accounting, has been named a partner at Dansa D’Arata Soucia CPAs and Consultants.

Nicholas Kaczmarek ’13, Graphic Design, was named the graphic and web designer for The Foundations of Kaleida Health (Kaleida Health Foundation & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo Foundation). He received a Buffalo Spree Best of WNY award for the podcast “When’s Food?”

Carly Duszynski ’14, Psychology, was named the fellowship program coordinator at UBMD Surgery.

Emily Buzzard ’18, ’19, Social Work, MSW, was named project director for the Office on Violence Against Women Campus Program at Niagara University.

Dr. Corstiaan Brass

Dr. Corstiaan Brass passed away on December 20, 2020. At the time he was working with Daemen, he was the owner of the Center for Skin Integrity and worked with the college’s Department of Physical Therapy to improve wound care through a collaborative approach.

Dr. Simona Carrubba

Dr. Simona Carrubba, a former assistant professor of physics, passed away on February 5, 2021. She was an energetic member of the Department of Natural Sciences and contributed to our understanding of the effect of low-energy transmissions on the human brain through her research. She will be missed by her former colleagues and students.

Judy Casassa

Judy Casassa passed away on April 7, 2021. She was a professor of modern languages/German.

John “Jack” Segmen, Ph.D. passed away on May 6, 2021. A professor of psychology at Rosary Hill/Daemen College, he served on the Emeritus Faculty Advisory Board.

Alfred “Doc” Zielonka, Ph.D. passed away on October 7, 2020. A professor at Rosary Hill/ Daemen College, from which he retired in 1992, he also served as department chair, vice president, and acting president during the Canavan-to-Marshall presidential transition. He was one of the first faculty members appointed to the college’s Board of Trustees.

Dr. Edward (Ned) J. Cuddy

Dr. Edward (Ned) J. Cuddy passed away on June 22, 2021. He taught at Daemen for many years and was a beloved faculty member and chair of the History & Political Science Department. Beloved husband of 60 years to Jean (Arns) Cuddy ’60; dear father of Mimi Cuddy-Mierzwa ’85, Karen Cuddy-Miller ’87, Maureen Kieffer ’87, Jennifer Lantzas ’91, Michele Fisher ’98, and Margaret “Molly” Reader, DPT ’96, ’06.
