Diamond Hawk SignOn Sunday, August 11, the Daemen College Athletic Department hosted its First Annual Wildcat Golf Classic at the Diamond Hawk Golf Course in Cheektowaga, NY. With over 100 participants, the event was a rousing success, according to Director of Athletics William Morris, raising funds to aid the Wildcat Club — the official athletics booster club of the College.

“For our first go at an event like this, I couldn’t be happier with the turnout and the overall triumph it was,” Morris said. “It was a beautiful day spent on a great golf course with great company. The revenue generated will have a direct impact on each and every one of our student-athletes. I’m hopeful that we will be able to build on this success each year.”

Morris continued, “I want to personally thank everyone who played a part in making this event a success — from our tournament participants who included alums, parents of studentathletes and fans, to our dedicated corporate sponsors, our hard-working Athletic Department staff, and of course, the wonderful people at Diamond Hawk Golf Course. We are incredibly lucky to have such loyal and devoted supporters — a group that is only growing in numbers these days.”

The tournament, a four-man scramble format, was won by Bryan Mika, Jeff Majchrzak, Derek Amerlinck and Kevin Clauser. The foursome, led by former Daemen golf team members Mika and Majchrzak, came in with a group score of 58 (-14) to win by three strokes.

The Wildcat Club aims to allow individuals to have a direct impact on the success of Daemen’s 14 intercollegiate athletic teams by providing an avenue for those individuals to donate funds. Wildcat Club members are active participants in enhancing the image and spirit of Daemen College Athletics. Members have the opportunity to exchange ideas and provide leadership as Daemen moves ahead with its NCAA Division II membership initiative.
