Luis A. Santiago ’79
Luis A. Santiago ‘79 is the owner and agent of Lou Santiago/State Farm Insurance, a business he has owned for more than 23 years. In addition to his BA in Humanities, Lou earned a Master’s of Business Administration in 2012 from the University at Buffalo through their Executive MBA program. Lou believes that serving the community is key to leading a fulfilling life. Working with Hispanics United of Buffalo and many business owners on the city’s Lower West Side, Lou’s work has a significant impact on many people. In 1989, he was part of the startup committee that became Project Pride of North Tonawanda, Inc. and worked with the North Tonawanda Downtown Merchants Association to bring more exposure to businesses located there, improve the local business climate, clean up downtown, and improve beautification. Lou served as a board member for the Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawanda’s from 1992–1998. Additionally, he served as president of the Latino Business Owners Association from 1997–1998, as well as additional offices from 2000–2007.
Lou has been a supportive member of the Daemen College Center for Sustainable Communities and Civic Engagement Advisory Board for the past ten years. In addition to his work in the community through involvement as treasurer of the Cultures of Giving Legacy Initiative, he serves on the boards of directors of Hispanics United of Buffalo, as well as Secretary of LARAMA, both a part of the ACACIA Network headquartered in the Bronx.
Graduate of the Last Decade
Anthony J. M. Jones Esq. ’01
Growing up in Buffalo, attorney Anthony J.M. Jones ’01 learned to balance his multiple ambitions and endeavors. An All-New York State athlete in high school, he earned a basketball scholarship to Daemen College in 1997 — his leadership helped the men’s basketball team to its first National Tournament bid in 2000. Upon being admitted to the University at Buffalo School of Law, Jones co-founded the Sports & Entertainment Law Society and participated with the Black Entertainment Lawyers Association. He also formed an independent record label, Nickel City Records.
Jones successfully transitioned his music business background into the launch of his own boutique entertainment company, The Jones Firm, with offices in New York City, Honolulu, HI and Buffalo, NY. The Jones Firm’s clients have worked with a host of notable stars, including Beyonce, Jay Z, Notorious BIG, Jennifer Lopez, Diddy, Jamie Foxx, and many more. Jones has launched a sports management firm, Entegrity Sports, built around bringing creative vision and brand building to empower athletes.
Service to the Community
Paula Y. Kregg ’70
Motivated by a strong affinity for the creative arts, Paula Y. Kregg ’70 has contributed to the local landscape of cultural enrichment in many capacities. After graduating from Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, she earned degrees from both Villa Maria College (‘67 A.A.) and Daemen College (‘70 B.F.A.). She was one of the original incorporators of the Theatre of Youth Company, Inc. (‘72–’75), and was instrumental in bringing children’s theater to Buffalo in a unique and unprecedented way. It was during this time that Paula began to hone the multifaceted portion of her career, as an actress, director, narrator, and general manager. Paula also ventured into theater management; she was the general manager of The Oscar Micheaux Theatre (‘79–’80) and served as the general manager of Shea’s Buffalo Performing Arts Center (‘75–’77).
Paula also built a long career in both law enforcement and healthcare. As a drug counselor at Erie County Medical Center (‘82–’11), she worked tirelessly to rehabilitate substance abusers, and linked patients to programs to help them to re-establish their lives. Additionally, she began working with the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority, working her way up through the ranks from NYS Peace Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Acting Captain, and ultimately director of public safety, maintaining her dual employment over a period of 21 years.
Advancement in Career
Barbara A. Morris, M.D. ’72
Barbara is Chief Medical Officer of Community Care Physicians, PC, a multi-specialty medical group headquartered in Latham, New York. She is also a practicing pediatrician. After graduating from Rosary Hill College with a B.S. in Pre-med, Dr. Morris completed her medical degree, internship and residency training at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. Dr. Morris’ pediatric record includes developing the Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course in Kansas City; improving patient access by designing and implementing a program to increase evening and weekend appointments, as well as introducing a triage program. As an executive, Dr. Morris is at the forefront of innovation and utilization of electronic medical records which guarantee physician access to patient data, allowing for timely and accurate care and treatment. Dr. Morris also broke new ground as the first physician in the country pioneering an iPhone application allowing physicians to access patient electronic health records immediately from any location.
Dedication to the College
Pamela Barwell Schenkel ’83
Pamela was a business major as well as a charter member of Lambda Chi Iota Sorority. Pamela continued a strong attachment to the College after graduation, seen in her leadership of and participation in a wide range of activities and events, well beyond her continued involvement with Lambda Chi Iota. Pamela was a member of the Alumni Board for several years while serving in several leadership roles. As an active member of the Alumni board from 1992 to 1999, Pamela has held the positions of recording secretary, president, and presidentelect. And Pamela continues to work for the Alumni Relations office today.
Valerie A. Kern DiPasquale ’89
The dedication to the College shown by Valerie Kern Dipasquale ‘89 was very evident soon after her graduation. Along with her close friend Pamela Barwell Schenkel ’83, Valerie, also a business major, chose to participate in a range of alumni projects and events. Valerie served on the Alumni Board from 1994 until 1999, and she was heavily involved in many events. As a member of the Alumni Board, Valerie held the position of treasurer (1994–1995) and was a member-atlarge from 1996–1999. Valerie was instrumental in launching the Easter Bunny Brunch, which she and Pamela Barwell Schenk
