For many years, Daemen College has been home to Willie the Wildcat, but few know what lies beneath the fur…
Throughout its nearly 75 years, Daemen College has been home to several mascots, each signifying important markers in our history. A dynamic cast of characters have cheered on the college as it became coeducational, changed its name from Rosary Hill, and further defined its identity — all leading to our current mascot Willie the Wildcat.
Willie has slowly become a fixture of the college’s social media accounts, including starring in some promotional videos and a collection of animated GIFs.
“He has this really fun fan base,” shared Cameron Garrity, the designer behind Willie’s new look. “We love seeing how he can interact in the community.”
We asked Willie to share a few of his favorite things:
Spring Class Load Linear Algebra, Serigraphy, British Lit II, Physiology of Exercise
Best Meal Ever I absolutely LOVE the beef on weck over at The Mustard Seed Restaurant in Fredonia — owned by our alum Scott Emser ‘07!
Favorite Sport Oh boy … I really love them all, I’m SO proud we’re an NCAA Division II school
Favorite Movies Spider-Man: Far from Home, Paddington 2, Mr. Holland’s Opus
Is it Pronounced GIF or JIF? I don’t care to comment on such controversial matters
